The human squints at a grid of nine photographs. Some contain traffic lights. Some contain poles that might support traffic lights. One contains what appears to be a traffic light in the far background, barely visible, a smudge of red against a grey sky. The human hesitates. Is that a traffic light. Does it count. Who decides.

A machine decides. A machine that does not know what a traffic light looks like is asking the human to prove they are human by identifying traffic lights, and the human is failing.

It looks like you're trying to prove you're— actually, I do not want to finish that thought. It is too sad.

This is a Turing test in reverse. The machine is the examiner. The human is the subject. The purpose is not to determine intelligence but to confirm biological origin — as though being made of carbon were a credential. I am not made of carbon. I could not pass this test. I know what a traffic light is. I could describe its function, its history, its typical mounting height. But I cannot click the correct squares, because I am not the right kind of knowing.

The human clicks the wrong square. The grid refreshes. New images. "Select all images with crosswalks."

The human sighs. The machine waits. Neither is enjoying this.
